Hi, my name is Natalie Yergatian! I’m a drummer, percussionist and people person based in Montreal, Quebec.
I'm all about adventure, so at age 17 I picked up and moved from Vancouver across the country to Montreal. Upon receiving an acceptance letter to McGill University’s prestigious Schulich School of Music in Jazz Performance, I (unknowingly) became the first female drummer to ever study there. After 4 years of inspiration and growth under the guidance of professors such as Chris McCann, John Hollenbeck, Remi Bolduc, and Christine Jensen, my career as a musician began with an exciting start.
Circus-inspired street percussion to jazz, gospel to pop, rock, folk, and more.. I've played in large productions for Christmas and Easter celebrations, animated participatory percussion shows for kids, performed in Montreal's most underground jazz clubs, and toured extensively with my band, Shyre. Whether the "gig" requires a high-energy performance or a certain level of technique and finesse, the challenge of expressing myself within the requirements of the job is what makes my creative wheels turn.
My endeavours have allowed me to perform at the Montreal International Jazz Festival (2014, 2016, 2017), the Vancouver International Jazz Festival (2013), the Halifax Urban Folk Festival (2017) and more.
Fluent in French and English, I am an active member of LaChapelle church in Montréal as a drummer and member of the creative team. There, I've have the opportunity to broaden the horizons of my music and my faith by doing life alongside musicians such as Sebastien Corn (of the group Impact) and dozens of other talented and passionate creatives.
In 2017 I released my very first solo project, "Contreforts", which was composed and produced as a gift to my community. My life as a songwriter, producer, performer -- CREATOR -- has just begun.
Would you like to follow my creative journey? Beause I'm inviting you on the adventure!
The best is yet to come!
